Home renovations: Don't forget about your bedroom |
When it comes to home renovations, it's easy to put your bedroom at the bottom of the priority list. It may be because bedrooms aren't the most popular place in the home for guests and friends, or because all you really need is your bed, right? Wrong!
(NC)—When it comes to home renovations, it's easy to put your bedroom at the bottom of the priority list. It may be because bedrooms aren't the most popular place in the home for guests and friends, or because all you really need is your bed, right? Wrong!
Whether renovating or redecorating, the Better Sleep Council Canada has some tips to help make your bedroom a haven in the home.
1. Take pride in your bed: Your bed should be the central point of your bedroom and designed to improve the quality of your sleep. Ensure your mattress is giving you the space, comfort and support you need. Mattresses need replacing every eight to 10 years.
2. Remove distractions: If you're one of the many Canadians keeping telephones, televisions and computers in the bedroom, make sure all of these distractions have an on/off switch. Reduce late-night disturbances by turning off your telephone ringer, logging off the computer long before bedtime and avoiding exercise right before bed.
3. Create a relaxing sleep environment: Make sure your bedroom is conducive to a good night's sleep. Design a cool, quiet and dark room. Your bedroom should be associated with pleasure and rest, not stress and tension.
Remember that just like sleep, maintaining a comfortable bedroom should be a priority too. By creating an environment that's just perfect for you, you'll be ensuring the best possible sleep each and every night.
